Childhood:

Was born in 1917

Was the only child of Kamla and Jawaharlal Neru

Spent part of childhood in Allahabad and part in Swittzerland

Went to college at Somerville College, Oxford

Her mother died in 1936

In 1942 she married Feroze Gandhi

She had two children, Rajiv Gandhi(1944), and Sanjay Gandhi(1946)

Feroze Gandhi died in 1960

Her father was the first prime minister of India

Indira died in 1984

Major Accomplishment:

She became the first woman Prime Minister of India

Was the third prime minister of India

The position of Prime Ministership couldn't decide who should be Prime Minister so picked Indira

She rode the crest of popularity after India's triumph in the war of 1917 against Pakistan

In 1959 she became she became president of the Indian National Congress

How did she affect the future:

Helped Bangadesh win independence from Pakistan

Appealed for internaitional help but no intervention was under taken

In December Indira ordered an Indian invaision

Two weeks later Pakistan surrendered
