The Last Frontier, also known as Alaska was the 49th state in the United States of America. The U.S bought Alaska form Russia in 1867 for 7.2 million dollars. However, Alaska wasnít admitted to the U.S until 1954. In Alaska there is a famous dog sled race that is called the Iditarod. The Iditarod is held from Anchorage, Alaska all the way to Nome, Alaska.†††

††††††††† Alaska is an outstanding state with amazing land structures. It has mountain called Mt. McKinley thatís peak is the highest point in the whole North America. Also it has 615,230 square miles of land.††††††††

††††††††† In Alaska people are known as Alaskans. Due to the 2010 Senses Data there are 721,523 Alaskans. In Alaska 16 percent is Native American and 4 percent is African American. Also 25,000 is Asian American and 26,000 are Hispanics that live in Alaska.†††††††††

††††††††† A long, long time ago there was a land bridge made of ice. That land bridge connected Asia to Alaska. Many people came across that land bridge and went to Alaska. In 1880 Joe Juneau and Dick Harris stumbled upon gold also known as the Alaskan Gold Rush. In 1929 there was a Great Depression that lasted 10 years. People lost jobs and Alaskaís saw and copper mines closed.††††

††††††††† Alaskaís most important business is mining. Mining brings in 1/3 of Alaskaís money. Also about over 1 million tourists visit Alaska each year. And all together these tourists spend about 1,000 dollars each. ††††††

††††††††† In Alaska there are fun places to visit and things to do. For instance, you can go to southern Alaska and visit Wrangell St. Elias National Park where you can see two of the biggest glaciers.
