Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867 near New Castle, Indiana. Four years later Orville Wright was
born on August 19, 1871 in Dayton, Ohio.
There family members names were, Katherine there sister, Reuchlin and Loren
there brothers, and Susan Wright and Milton Wright there parents. The seven
stayed in Dayton
after Orville was born. Milton was bishop in their town but, he was
always away so Susan took care of the five until she died from consumption
(tuberculoses) later on. While Wilbur played hockey, he smashed his face and
suffered several injuries while trying to take care of his mother. When the
Wright Brothers were teens they left school because they had to work. The
Wrights used there money for plane parts. The Wrights were inspired by Gorge
Clayley. They tried to keep their planes secret. However, when people passed in trolley
cars they would see the Wright Brothers working on their planes, and thought the
brothers were insane.
The Wright Brothers were famous because they achieved many
accomplishments. In 1899, they
became serious about flying, so they wrote a letter to the famous Smithsonian in
Washington D.C. for books about flying. A major decision for the Wright Brothers
was the wing shape, since no one else had really studied about it. Their decision was excellent because on
December 17, 1903 Wilbur took his first successful flight. It flew for 59 seconds and 852
feet. On the same day Orville flew
for 12 seconds and 120 feet. They
would have flown more that day but while they were talking to each other, a gust
of wind blew their plane into a tree.
In 1904 the Wrights got into the Popular Science Issue. The Wright Brothers made three engine
flyers (airplanes): 1903, 1904, and 1905 engine flyer. The 1905 engine flyer flew for 30
minutes. The Wright Brothers had
many flying shows.
The Wright brothers were very admirable and remarkable. Many other
scientists failed trying to build planes before the Wright Brothers. The Wright
Brothers didn’t go to school for engineering, but they studied the work other
scientists did involving aircraft.
After very hard work and some failures, the Wright Brothers finally got
it right and achieved their goal of flying.
The Wright Brothers made an impact on people and companies. The brothers
planes made a great impact on the air force. The Wrights also made an impact on NASA
to develop space crafts. Now people
can travel around the world in 24 hours because of the Wright’s. If someone has a business meeting on the
other side of the world, they could get their quickly.
I learned a very valuable lesson from studying about the Wright Brothers.
Either if you don’t catch a ball or your wing breaks like the Wright Brothers
always try and never give up because you can achieve amazing things.
